Birds and Hooked Rugs and Things Here

As promised, I have to show you my hooked eagle; I'm not making much progress due to lots of things going on here in Millview.

thought I could turn him around...

Vernon River Lion's Club, May 2011
So here I am to tell you that the eagle has not quite landed yet; but everything else seems to have gotten done... there are only two surviving ducks; sadly, the two we tried to keep alive were too far gone to survive. Nature.

Mother duck and her two ducks and one chick are great, no thanks to Jack whose instinct overwhelms him in the chicken house. I'll be sure to tell you how we get along when the time comes.

William and Kate to Visit PEI what'll they see??

these bee houses are ready for PEI dandelion honey
http://anneofgreengables.com/blogs/category-news/item/

Most of us here on PEI will not get to see see William and Kate in person as they will be visiting the most famous Islander of all, Anne of Green Gables, in Cavendish this summer. I am wondering what Lucy Maude montgomery would be writing about the visit from the royal couple? Would she be wishing they could visit out dandelion display that is fit for a king and queen - it's a one week only show as you can see. the bees will have honey fit for royalty from this patch.

tail-gaiting PEI style - do not pass....

Perhaps they will fall behind a slow moving farm machine and see lots of spring dandelions then.

PEI Dust Bath

I guess there will be lots of things William and Kate will see, just not the sights and sounds and smells of PEI that we all see everyday as we drive the country roads.
that's the view from here today

Forget Me Not.............

Jack Running through the Forget Me Nots
Yesterday Jack and I borrowed some of the neighbor's rhubarb again and stole a few pictures of their hug patch of Forget-Me-Nots. Ours are not out yet and we tilled most of them rather than deal with the weeds in the front garden. Anyway, Jack made sure the house was safe and soundas they were away for the week.

On the rughooking side of things, I am creating an eagle for the Mt. Stewart Eagle Festival in June. love starting a new project....jack tho is not always happy as I get focused on something other than him.

This is spring on PEI

Jack was the look-out as I picked Wendell's rhubarb yesterday......

While I took rhubarb..
Poor doggie today...Jack can't decide whether he's going or coming 'cause I have the door open.....first spring he's been here .....actually he's going out one door and in another, most times with a stick or shell(from my seashore stash),,,checking to see me and off again...I feel the same way......

Proud Mommy Duck

you 're a nice mommy
The chick has survived another Jack-attack and is soooo sweet. (I have survived a day with new Windows 7). While her own precious eggs  are yet to hatch, she has hatched out the little chick.

A Rhubarb Kind-of-day in at Pastimes PEI..

This is the rhubarb patch out front at at Pstimes PEI
Fresh-picked on a rainy day on PEI

Rhubarb Cake is still hot here

Good Cake and ice cream

No more for you, Jack...
No time for grammie Shirlee to hook today when folks arrive to have a snack before milking the cows down home. This day was made for eating rhubarb.with great-grammie.....indoors, out of the rain. I made the cake from freshly picked rhubarb and fresh eggs from the hen house. Krissy and Emmalee came to help us eat the cake with ice cream. Jack was happy to have a messy person around. Jack kept a close eye on her...would you say, begging? maybe? He also wrecked havoc in the henhouse when Krissy dropped the little chicken that the duck just hatched ahead of her own brood. Krissy put more henhouse pictures on Facebook...Watch for them here too...especially if we have lots more rainy days and we're all in the house and on the computer instead of digging in the garden. The girls had to leave early to go to help Grampie Mat do the milking down in Vernon.

The Duck had a Chicken Yesterday

I wish I had a sister or brother...
I know the picture is not great but she got cranky when Jack and I came in..I snapped and ran so as to not disturb the peace any more than that.

Took some pictures this morning just outside the house; every one seems to have such exciting unusual photos...this is all I've got...spring comes late here on the Island. That's why we make the most of the warm weather of summer. This is the first day that I could sit outside on the doorstep, sit Earl Grey and listen to Stewart MacLean on the radio. All Jack can do it run, sniff, run sniff...I put a few more on Facebook at

Finishing Up is Hard to Do

Today Barry is driving to Summerside and while there he is dropping our mats off for entry into the summer Eptek show...juried so we my get them back but the deadline had me scrambling to finish especially when I discovered at 12:30 last nite that the rod did not hold the ship...got him up to help but we only got it in shape this am..otherwise, I would still be in bed. Jack has gone back to finish his nite's rest.

A Day to Pick the Daffidolls

While it is supposed to be warm and springy today, I put my woolen headband on to walk out for the mail and was glad I did...the wind is wicked out there. Have my hooked rug almost done so no more pictures of Jack and it until the reveal...I'd say about Friday. Barry is picking up the wooden rods for hanging it on. I spent all day yesterday fixing the odd places and making the thing look straight. My Aunt Norma always said that any project is one third planning and start-up, one third working at the actual piece and the last third is spent on the finishing. This is all in terms of energy and time. If you jump into the middle, that where you land, perhaps in a muddle. Try it and see ... All for today as I have to do some major house stuff. The fur balls are piling up, the laundry is piling up and the dishes.....

Almost sailing away......

still waiting...
they both look the same to me
Is this thing every going to be finished? Jack has resigned himself to the fact that it's quite the process. Here's the latest version...I kinda feel the same as Jack does...I want to see the finished version asap.
